Potential Bard IVC Filter Lawsuit

Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters can fracture and/or migrate, causing serious health injuries and even death

IVC filters are small, cage-like medical devices that are inserted into the inferior vena cava (the main vessel returning blood from the lower half of the body to the heart) to capture potential blood clots and prevent them from reaching the heart, lungs or brain.

Patients implanted with these IVC filters are at risk for IVC filter complications should the IVC filters fracture or break.  If you or a loved one has been injured after receiving a Bard IVC filter, please call us or email us immediately to discuss your potential case.

Inferior Vena Cava filters are used to treat patients at risk for pulmonary embolisms (blood clots). A number of patients undergo surgery where IVC filters are inserted into a vein to prevent potential blood clots from traveling to the heart, lungs or brain.

IVC filter complications can lead to vein or organ perforation or create an obstruction.  The fracture and or migration of a Bard IVC filter can lead to serious injury, and some times death.

Bard IVC Filter Failures
In August of 2010, the FDA published an alert regarding two different Bard IVC filters:

1)      Bard Recovery IVC filter

The Recovery IVC filter was approved by the FDA in 2002, and placed on the market in 2003.  Bard Peripheral Vascular, the manufacturer of the Bard Recovery IVC filter,  withdrew the Recovery IVC filter from the market in 2005 and replaced it with the G2 IVC filter.

2)      Bard G2 IVC filter

Bard marketed the G2 IVC filter as having “enhanced fracture resistance”, “improved centering” and “increased migration resistance.” Unfortunately, the Bard G2 IVC filter has also been linked to a high rate of IVC fractures and migrations.
